Bagasse
The Louisiana State is the US largest sugar cane and raw sugar producing state with bagasse as waste product from the sugar mills. Some of it used for power production, but more than 60% is waste for landfills. The State plans to increase production of the sugar and is in deep need to process more bagasse.
The new syngas fermentation technology allows to process bagasse into two valuable products: cellulosic renewable fuel grade ethanol and soil treatment fertilizer to restore sugar cane production fields.
The future plant site is in between three largest sugar mills and four crude oil refineries, which are the largest buyers of fuel grade ethanol.
The local sugar mills where the plant will be located can provide to the plant circa 200 to 240 tpd of bagasse (range depends upon carbon content and moisture level) on average per day. This will lead to the production of 10,000,000 gal/yr. and 24 800 ton of fertilizer.
The local sugar mills expressed interest in the plant to provide the biomass for the minimal cost of delivery.
